    High-Performance Seals made of TFE for almost every Purpose

    Spring-loaded seals / lip seals out of PTFE (polytetrafluoroethylene) feature a pre-loaded and corrosion-resistant metal spring which produces a reliable seal, allowing neither gases nor fluids to escape.

    The metal spring is encapsulated in the U-shaped PTFE body and acts as a preload element. The elasticity of the spring reduces seal wear and compensates for eccentricity.

    This results in sufficient sealing force even at low pressure. At high pressure, spring-loaded seals out of PTFE provide an optimised seal and reliable protection against leaks.

    Chemical resistance of seals out of PTFE (polytetrafluoroethylene)

    PTFE seals / lip seals have outstanding chemical resistance to aggressive media / solvents and are suitable for use in applications with high thermal stresses of minus 260 °C to 280 °C (intermittently) and media pressure and vacuum values > 1300 bar.

    KED Seals presents CHEMFLON® 1285, a new FEPM grade (based on Aflas by AsahiGlass) which is FDA compliant and meets all of these requirements. This material, which is also much more economical than expensive FFKM materials, is significantly superior to materials such as silicone, EPDM and FKM especially under aggressive conditions. The currently biocompatibility requirements according to the USP (United States Pharmacopeia) Class VI can be met as well.

    Selecting the right seal can increase the average service life, avoiding expensive and unplanned downtime, dangerous leaks and contamination of product.

    Pharmaceutical manufacturers primarily base their production systems on FDA (Food and Drug Administration, USA) guidelines in order to survive in this important market. This is why FDA compliant seals are indispensable.

    However, companies in the biotechnology, food and beverage industries are facing increasingly higher standards with regard to their manufacturing processes. Hot water and steam resistance for applications such as Steam-In-Place (SIP), Clean-In-Place (CIP) and Water-for-Injection (WFI) with simultaneous resistance to chemicals and acids in particular are increasingly in demand, especially for new applications in sterile technology and food manufacturing.

    3-A standard for reusable product

    Due to the high purity requirements in the pharmaceutical industry, problematic additives in the materials are replaced in a targeted manner and bulking agents are selected in accordance with the FDA regulations and guidelines. CHEMFLON® 1285 also meets the reusability requirements of the 3-A sanitary standard.

    Sanitary gaskets made from CHEMFLON® 1285 in accordance with FDA 21CFR177.2600 with FCN number are distinguished by

    • their resistance to a broad range of chemicals,
    • outstanding compression end set and
    • a thermal expansion coefficient which is low for fluororubbe

    They are available or can be produced in all sizes for Tri-Clover® and Tri-Clamp® installations and O-rings in accordance with AS-568A, and naturally also in customer-specific geometries. .

    Diametral Springs / Slanted Coil Springs

    Slanted coil springs or diametral springs are inlaid elements (spring support elements) which provide additional spring properties to chemical-resistant sealing materials. These diametral springs give sealing materials a constant preload without the typical setting behaviour of elastomers or plastics.

    Slanted coil springs can be used in combination with plastic or elastomer seals, but also as preload elements or carriers.

    Very flat load curve under axial loading

    Diametral springs or slanted coil springs (springs with slanted coils) are continuous ring-shaped coil springs or ring-shaped springs which are designed for axial loading along their centre axis, so that the resulting force remains relatively constant within a defined deflection range. As a result, diametral springs often have a very flat load curve.

    Our diametral springs are made from various stainless steels such as Hastelloy C or Inconel or from other alloys such as gold, silver or nickel and are corrosion-resistant even under high loads.

    • V-Springs

      V-Springs

      V-springs are inlaid elements (spring support elements) which provide chemical-resistant seal materials such as Alt PTFE with a constant preload without the typical compression set behaviour of elastomers or plastics. They are used in automotive, hydraulic and pneumatic cylinders, hot water valves, pumps, steam turbines, food processing, chemical and process technology and medical technology applications.

      V-springs can be used in combination with plastic or elastomer seals, but also as preload elements (spring-loaded seals or lip seals / spring-biased PTFE seals) or carriers.

      The material properties of spring steel and high quality PTFE fluoro plastics are combined to provide high and permanent elasticity, to compensate for cold flow and wear of the seal lip, and to produce defined, low pressure forces.

      V-springs are made from stainless steel ribbon, and of course other alloys are available as well. The springs are wound in an endless spiral geometry (closed loop) and have a round cross-section.

      V-springs are particularly well suited for seals in static applications as a flange or container seal and to seal rotating shafts, and as piston or rod seals.
